Afrormosia

Pericopsis elata

Heartwood is yellowish brown, occasionally with a reddish or olive-coloured hue, darkening with age. Narrow sapwood is pale yellow and clearly differentiated from the heartwood.

Afrormosia (Pericopsis elata), often sold as “African Teak”, is a West African hardwood prized for its warm golden-brown colour, fine lustre and strong natural durability. It offers excellent weather and decay resistance (Class 1), making it suitable for boatbuilding, exterior joinery and high-end flooring.

Generally cooperative to machine and finish—though interlocked grain can tear out—Afrormosia is valued when a teak-like look and performance are needed with a slightly crisper, more refined texture.
